Yoga Therapy & Private Sessions

Practice with Confidence

What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga Therapy is different from a typical yoga class that most people are familiar with, where everyone receives a “one-size-fits-all” instruction. A yoga therapy session is most often working one-on-one, where a therapist works individually with a client to develop a personalized practice to address their needs. Yoga therapy sessions may include the use of movement, postures, sound, breath, visualization and meditation and other healing modalities. Yoga therapy may also take place in a group class, where the participants share a common injury or illness, but because of the larger numbers of students, individual needs may not be met as directly as when working one-to-one with a therapist. Whether in a private session or group class, working with the yoga therapist, self-motivated and -empowered individuals become informed, active participants in creating their best life.

You don’t have to be sick to benefit from yoga therapy. A yoga therapist can help you with all kinds of tools for healthy aging and living, such as dealing with everyday aches and pains, stress management, sound sleeping and healthy lifestyle practices.

Yoga therapy is also very helpful to dealing with physical and mental conditions, such as chronic pain, arthritis, heart conditions, stroke, Parkinson’s Disease and MS, insomnia, anxiety, and depression. Yoga therapy can also provide support for illnesses such as cancer, as well as end-of-life transitions.

Yoga for People with Parkinson's Disease

I have had the great good fortune of using yoga to help address conditions related to Parkinson’s Disease since 2010. My Mom had Parkinson’s and I wanted to find a way to help her through yoga.

I found a class in Oakland taught by Vickie Russell Bell for PD Active [link to Resources page for PD Active] and have assisted Vickie and learned from her from the beginning. I continue to do so today. In 2013, I started in my own class, BE WELL: Yoga for People with Parkinson’s Disease, and it’s one of my favorite classes to teach. Teaching yoga to people with PD inspired me to pursue certification as a Yoga Therapist and continues to motivate me to find ways to offer classes that are physically satisfying (both active and restorative), meaningful and relevant to those that attend.

Classes with Suzanne are joyful, grounding. I learn things, I cherish the company of my sisters and brothers on the PD path, I feel love, I feel her caring and experience. I feel safe.

In all my years in academia I haven't met that many teachers who have been as dedicated to their teaching as Suzanne.

Private Sessions with Suzanne

Together we will help you find greater balance and integration in your life.

Teaching private, one-on-one yoga is my favorite way to work with students. More than half of my teaching practice is helping people practice yoga in a way that responds to their unique needs.

As your private yoga teacher, my job is to guide you to  listen to your body and become an informed, active participant in creating your best life. As a private yoga student, you receive the value of working closely with someone who can tailor a practice for your needs, address injuries, or support you in a particularly challenging pose.

Working together one-on-one is perfect if:

  • You want a higher level of personal attention and commitment from an instructor who is focused 100% on your needs and goals.

  • You are interested in learning how to use yoga’s physical practices and tools to help you age gracefully.

  • You have a medical diagnosis or injury and need a practice that addresses your unique needs and promotes healing.

  • You want to learn how to breathe and move better in all aspects of your life.

Because needs change all the time, practices may vary from session to session, but they will always be tailored to what’s going on in your life. Some days, you may need a very physical practice to build strength and confidence. Other days, you may need a more nurturing, restorative practice to soothe your nerves. Each session is specifically designed for what you need.
